![]() If you are expecting major AI improvements or similarly major improvements to diplomacy or espionage, then Warlords doesn’t have what you want. If you want to see fundamentally new features included that add new layers of strategy or change the gameplay very significantly, then Warlords will probably disappoint you. If you’ve always wanted to try playing as the Barbarians, buy Warlords, because the Barbarian scenario is an interesting concept with a good implementation. If you appreciate having new civilizations and leaders, and are content with additions that don’t change the strategic layers of Civ IV drastically, you’ll enjoy Warlords. If you are a fan of Civ IV and want some more of the same, you’ll enjoy Warlords for what it is. The new additions, while not always creating extra strategic choice, are consistently fun to play with. Most importantly, it maintains the good balance of Civ IV and doesn’t break the game in any way. Warlords, however, isn’t a horrible expansion, either. It doesn’t really address the shortcomings of the original game, such as weak espionage, and it doesn’t improve the UN or add exciting diplomacy options, outside of vassalage. It doesn’t have things that, after playing with them, you won’t be able to imagine Civ being without. I can’t easily say what it is, so I will begin by saying what it isn’t. Doesn't mean that the company is doing poorly, imho.ĭespite the fact that I have enough experience with Warlords, I am finding it pretty hard to give my final verdict on this expansion. A smart company would, I think, go hire the best modders because they'll keep producing quality. Those are the people who will put in free time to do the modding, and will care about it just as much. When it comes down to it, the people working on the software for Firaxis aren't going to be the full set of most-excited people about the game. It's going to happen, that there are modpacks better than the expansions - you saw it in NWN as well. I think this is a normal outgrowth of games getting more modded. I do reccommend this as a spectacular addition to the game EVEN moreso than the warlords expansion (which of course you have to buy because they'll start modding that next to make it better.) a huge civilization of barbarians but Sevomod right now seems excellent. ![]() Realism seems to have too many and too raging barbarians in that by the end of the game it is you vs. added civilizations, technologies, resources, units, etc. If you go to, go into the forums, then civ4 completed modpacks.there are some mod packs that are great additions. ![]()
